On a sampler, you must first load the samples into one of the instruments slots in the interface of the sampler. On a synth that is General Midi compatible, you simply choose the instrument and the synth on the fly recreates the sound. To be absolutely clear, all samplers do perform some degree of synthesizing of a sound, but now using the audio sample instead of the wave oscillation and, then modulating the audio sample to create different variations in timbre and other sound properties for the patch. The more sophisticated the sample patch, the more bits of audio are included, such that a piano may have had up to twelve different small audio recordings of every separate note on the keys.to capture the changing tone of how hard the keys are played.
Whereas a synth like Forte 'synthesizes' timbres for instruments in whole cloth from simple wave form oscillation and various modulations, a sampler take portions of real audio recording of an instrument and plays it back. Note the name: Sample Tank, i.e, a container of samples. I also have the complete set of SampleTank based workstation libraries including the Miraslav Philharmonik but I have not perfected using patches from these yet, only the ones bundled with BiaB referred to as the Hi-Q.ĭavid must surely be correct. Still, it may be worth the effort as I found some of the Hi-Q sounds to be better for some gypsy jazz band styles for Django in a Box tracks than even the real tracks ones. I can give you more detailed step by step to do this if you would like, but it may take me a bit to get to it since I have in-laws coming to visit today for a long weekend. Then you can choose from within the mixer window to insert Hi-Q patches in place of the ones that are specified in the current style. I think you have to enable VST/DXi in the Opt - MIDI/Audio Settings first. There are some initial settings you need to make. I too recently upgraded to BiaB 2013 (from 2012) and got my BiaB to successfully play with some of the SampleTank "Hi-Q" sounds as substitutes for other instrument patches.
